PerHaps Now -

Artists in Residence

This January and February, the local performance troupe PerHaps Now will take up residency at NCA as an artist in residence. Known for their innovative use of unconventional props, intense physicality, absurd humour, and clever wordplay, this dynamic performance troupe creates visually arresting and thought-provoking work.

During the residency, the gallery will serve as their creative playground. PerHaps Now will have full access to the space, allowing them to workshop new ideas, experiment collectively, and develop new work. As part of their residency, the troupe will present two public performances:

flick, flick, flick, sliiide, pick-up pick-up

Tuesday, January 28th, 7:30 PM (Doors: 7 PM)

Led by troupe member Lucy Heaton, this playful and frenetic piece features five performers in white tights and blue bibs as they interact with props like sun loungers, switches, and other "hinged collaborators." With slams, folds, and exertions, the performance is a game of click clacking parts. It plays out like a physical puzzle or a desire-dense loop of object-scapades.

Originally performed to a sold-out audience at Arts Admin in London as part of the inaugural Queer Performance MA show, flick, flick, flick, sliiide, pick-up pick-up is a gripping exploration of a group held in an object’s pull. With interludes of unison, the troupe holds you in a forcefield of (il)logic.
