The Kick, The Snare, The Hat & A Clap

NCA - Gallery Two

Thursday 26th September - Friday 4th October

open: Thursday - Saturday, 12 - 5pm

Launch: Thursday 26th September, 6pm

The Kick, The Snare, The Hat & A Clap by artist and filmmaker Susie Davies explores the history of the 90s rave scene in Newcastle. Focusing on activity in the Ouseburn Valley, the film features unseen archival footage and interviews with those who participated in the scene. The documentary provides an historical context and perspective as to how the rave scene rose into being through the bonds and inventiveness of its community and their use of a once-overlooked post-industrial area of the city that has now become a thriving cultural hub. As Susie Davies remarks.”I was completely inspired by this party movement which was embedded in determination and DIY culture - and is a true example of the unifying power of music.”

The exhibition is part of the Succession of Repetitive Beats programme.
